Message from the Pastor

We recently began an ambitious construction project to enlarge our Fellowship Hall and kitchen as well as to make our building more accessible and friendly for those who have mobility issues.  Follow the progress of construction by clicking on "Pastor's Blog" at the top of this page and see the changes taking place.

While my personal experience with building projects is limited, I have certainly talked to plenty of people who have undertaken the challenge of building or remodeling a house.  One of the things they have told me is that there are always surprises along the way, things you did not anticipate and must address.

One of those things occurred during the early days of November.  We extended the landing leading to the exterior doors by the church office to accommodate the handicapped- accessible ramp.  What we did not anticipate was that moving the steps farther from the door meant that the light over the exterior doors no longer illuminated the steps.  This created a hazardous condition on the darkened stairs.

The Building Committee, realizing the problem, got right on it and within twenty-four hours we had two small lights installed on the side of the stairway to provide the necessary light.  They are depicted in the photo to the right with round covers just above the stairs themselves.  It is a huge improvement.

The photo below on the top left shows the size of the “new” kitchen with the light in the photo just over the point of the old exterior wall.  It is easier to grasp the size of the “new” Fellowship Hall in the photo on the top right below.  To give some perspective, the photo was taken near the door to the sanctuary from a point near the old exterior wall.  The bottom left photo shows the plumbing pipes (black) that will service the janitorial area of the new kitchen and farther back, the handicapped restroom.  The bottom right photo shows the exterior work being done on the 8th Street side of the “new” Fellowship Hall.
